Adventure time has always had a habit of being wierd but "the lich" has got to be one of the weirdest episodes.
Here is the ending to the episode as for me this is what made the episode truly weird, warning this blog and video contain spoilers.
the episode ends with a more realistic finn with more human facial features and a non magic jake the dog, rather ironically the ending is peculiar because its more realistic looking (for adventure time that is) although i wouldn't say this alternate reality is normal because its not, its still got that fantasy feeling but it's still miles away from the adventure time we're used to.
The continuity in this episode is immense having seen a one armed finn with a nose before in the king worm but there are some crazy theories regarding finn's mother not to mention haven't we seen this house before?
They look pretty similar, so does this mean that whatever is going to happen to one armed finn with a nose from some other dimension happened in finn's dimension, so confusing.
The theory surrounding finn's mother (from what people have suggested on the internet) is that the ghost in the episode "the creeps" is finn's mother, if you look at paintings in the mansion the woman in the pink dress is similar to the one worn by finn's mother, people also suggest that the ghost looked like her hair was seaweed so maybe something happened to her resulting in finn's fear of the ocean, but this seems unlikely i could be wrong but if it was finn's mother why was her painting and ghost in a mansion i guess we'll have to see how it plays out next season.
I think what confuses me the most is why does finn have a nose, i know most people are concerned by the robot arm which is an alarming change but i think the nose freaks me out the most, most likely because the majority of the characters don't have noses(like marceline, finn and the princesses) unless they are animals (like jake, tree trunks and the penguins) or they are crazy/evil (like lemongrab and the ice king) so by giving finn a nose it feels uncomfortable which in itself is unsettling as its just a nose and surely finn should have a nose, i'm thinking maybe like the ice king lemongrab thing this finn is crazy or troubled, i don't really know.
The whole robotic arm feels less shocking, not too sure why, i heard a theory that the loss of his arm represents the character's loss, the right arm often symbolises peace, justice and truth so losing it could symbolise that finn no longer either has peace, justice or truth in his life or he doesn't represents the hero in this reality, also the flute holds some symbolism of its own, the flute is often associated with the spirit world and magic and is an instrument of the gods, it would appear that through symbolism at least this finn has lost a considerable amount and i can't wait to see the next episode.
