Over Sexualised Music Videos: Maroon 5 - If I Never See Your Face Again ft. Rihanna

 The music video If I Never See Your Face Again is pretty sexual, it's the combination of a regularly sexualised women, a regularly sexualised man, chemistry and a song about casual sex. What could be better.
I love this music video.

The definition of sexualisation is kind of broad?
If someone is being desired by another then I guess it's technically a sexual scenario, I'm not really talking about sexual music videos but rather the music videos that are a little too sexual.
The kind of music video that makes you feel a little uncomfortable to watch in front of other people. That kind of sexual.

Most music videos can be split into different types's of sexual scenario's:

• The artist is represented sexually, more common if the artist is female.
• The artist isn't represented sexually but the people in the background are. (usually dancers male and female or female featuring artists.)
• Everybody is represented sexually. Sort of.
• Nobody is represented sexually.(These are usually the abstract music videos.)

In this video everyone is sexually represented, sort of.



Adam Levine is represented sexually , Rihanna is also being represented sexually but the rest of the band isn't really doing anything sexual at all, we only really see brief shots of them playing instruments.
It's arguable whether Adam Levine is being represented sexually in the video or not, I would say he is more seductive than Pitbull in last weeks post: Pitbull- Wild Wild Love ft. G.R.L

Pitbull looked nervous and despite the fact the women were all posed seductively Pitbull didn't really do anything seductive.
Adam Levine however looks confident around seductive women.

This is a very interesting point, but what do women find attractive in men?
Films, music video's, adverts, magazines etc have proved that men seemed to be more concerned with appearance, anything that improves or emphasises a women's appearance is  usually a good place to start so high heels, revealing tight clothes, make up etc.


Women are slightly different, women look for physical attributes that imply something deeper than the actual appearance.

The purpose of attraction is to get the healthiest mate to make the healthiest offspring that will make it to adulthood.
Primitively speaking men want a healthy looking woman who won't die during pregnancy and women want a man who won't let them or their children die.

One thing that women look for is clothes, I know that sounds weird talking about clothes and how that ties in with primitive attraction but bear with me.

 If a man can dress and look after himself to a standard a women likes she will be more attracted to him.
If we go back and looks at our ancient ancestors good clothes could  imply a healthier active man.
 Maybe cave-woman liked a man who could skin a healthy animal because it proves he is stronger than a cave-man who can't kill and skin a healthy animal.

Also lots of women like brooding men, there are countless articles on the internet that suggest this is the case and not to mention all the grumpy male leads in books and films.
Not overly sure why, maybe cave-women wanted a grumpy, brooding man because he was better at standing up to rial cave-men and their families or something, I don't know.

Adam is well dressed and grumpy looking in this video so according to what behaviour and apparel the internet says women find attractive, then he is indeed dressed and behaving in a way that's appealing to women, in that case I would say that he is being represented sexually.

Here are is an example of Adam Levine being sexy in If I Never See Your face. (to prove my point, clearly.) :

Adam is dressed in shirt, tie and waist coat.

Also take a note of his expression, he is maintain eye contact with the camera.

Eye contact implies confidence and my looking at the camera it's like he's looking at  the audience, also his body language is open so he seems relaxed and confident.

The out stretched arm is inviting.

 Oddly enough according to the internet men like women who are smiley and Rihanna isn't doing a lot of that, but she's moving pretty seductively and dressed pretty scantily so I guess that cancels out the not smiling thing.

Rihanna is wearing a tight, red, low cut dress.

Tight clothing shows off a persons figure, red is often seen as a sultry colour and the fact it's low cut reveals her cleavage.
Her body language is completely different to Adam's, her arms are close to her body and like in the women Pitbull video she is touching her body (in this case her neck.)
she also makes eye contact with the camera but less directly, this would imply confidence because she is making the effort to look into the camera but it also seems submissive as her body is closed off and she keeps shifting position.

Oddly enough Neither of them crack a smile the entire video.

I would also like to try and explain some other shots from the video:

Adam is seen fixing his tie, this relates to the theory of men's clothing appealing to women, it's clean, smart and probably expensive.

Again he looks sullen.

The blue and black colours could imply either coldness or coolness, depending how you look at it he is either relaxed or angry.

There is lots of sexual tension in this video, At this point Rihanna is the dominate but unlike Pitbull in the previous post Adam is convincingly ignoring her advances whilst maintaining an air of confidence and composure.

If you take a close look at Rihanna's outfit you can see it almost looks like a maid outfit.

Maid's have a submissive job role. (because they are given jobs by their masters.) Her dress is also revealing.

The way she is sitting also seems submissive. Her knees are drawn together and her body is arched forward, compare her body language with Adam's. All that can be seen of Adam in this shot is the back of his thighs and you can see his legs are spread apart implying he is confident and more domineering.  

I think the reason that Adam's legs are shown in the shot if to remind the audience that the pair are reacting to each other, this builds sexual tension.

This shot shows Rihanna with open body language, she is touching his shoulder. He isn't touching her back and he hasn't reached out to her either so it would imply that she is being dominant and he is being submissive.

There is nothing in this shot to indicate that Adam put her head on his lap and he isn't reacting to her but there is nothing to indicate that Rihanna put her head on this lap either.

I'm not sure who the dominant person is, her eye contact with the camera is indirect and she is physically lower than Adam which would point to her being submissive but Adam isn't reacting to her.

Not reacting to her could mean he is playing hard to get and teasing her by not giving in or it could mean he isn't interested in her no matter what she does to him.

This shot show's Rihanna teasing Adam, it would imply that she is sexually dominant as she is in control of the situation.

He however is reacting to it confidently. (He neither resists her advances or takes control of the situation but keeps a stern expression, the stern face implies confidence in the situation.) 

The pair pass the mic to one another forcefully, whilst one of the pair sings the other watches non-nonchalantly.

 The lyrics are quite angry so the actions fit the mood of the song.

The song feature Adam Levine and Rihanna taking it turns to sing verses and the video features Rihanna trying to gain Adam's attention and Adam trying to ignore it. 

It's almost like a fight, will Rihanna give up or will Adam give in?

The microphone could be a metaphor of them taking it in turns resist or seduce the other.

Touching is a good indication of sexual power. Rihanna touching Adam implies that not only does she have the confidence to do so but it also indicates that she is interested in him beacuse she is physically seeking him.

Again Adam is reacting by touching her back or moving toward her but he is looking at her which would mean that he is also interested. Only not as direct.

This could be an indication that he could give in.

Rihanna is posed provocatively on a bed, she is arching her back forward and head back to emphasise her chest. One leg is bent so both legs are visible, poses are used to draw attention to something so this pose draws attention to her chest and legs.

Notice the distance between the two, neither are imposing towards the other.

I would say Rihanna is being submissive in this shot as she is posing on a bed seductively and Adam is posing by the bed sullenly.

I would like to go back to what I said before about attraction. Men like women to dress and act in a way that highlight physical traits such as healthy and fitness.(such as long/healthy hair, healthy weight etc.)

Women usually like men dressed or to act in a way that highlights other traits that imply things like confidence, wealth and strength. Like when women are being sexualised men can also be sexualised by having them not wear an awful of of clothes.

A man could imply confidence by standing his ground or standing up for others, he could prove he is wealthy (or at least able to manage his money to some point) by maintaining his appearance so on and so fourth.

Adam standing by the bed in a suit looking serious would indicate he is behaving in a way that would be sexually appealing to women, you could use this shot to compare how both men and women are used to sell sex.

This is Adam levine's reaction shot to the Rihanna in the previous shot.

His body language is closed off, crossed arms are associated with irritation or displeasure so it would appear he has either rejected Rihanna or is playing hard to get, I would presume it's the latter because he doesn't look disgusted. Just indifferent.   

This completely turns the table from the shot of him glancing at her because now it looks like he is determined to not be seduced.

The body langue is interesting in this shot, Adam stands in the centre of the room, his feet are wide apart and his shoulders are low and relaxed. (although his could be because he's playing the guitar.)

Rihanna is circling him whilst touching his shoulder, there are other men in the video but she never acknowledges them.

Her body is closed off, her knee's her together as she walks and this gives the impression that she is less imposing (because he takes up less space when she stands) she is also standing very close to Adam as she walks.

This could imply that she is being the dominant person as she is initiating the interaction and acting seductively.

this could also imply that she is being sexually submissive as she occupies less space and is trying to attract his attention.

In this shot we go back to a previous scene where Rihanna is resting her head on Adam's lap whilst he just sits there playing hard to get. On first impression it could have seemed like Adam was dominant in this situation, seeing as she is in a physically lower and laying on your back is seen as a more vulnerable position than sitting up right.

But Rihanna is feeling his knee whilst he doesn't react, wouldn't this imply that she is in control? But does this make her dominant in this situation? 

Well. does this remind you of anything?

If you look at their bodies (what you can see of their bodies.)

Rihanna's legs are parted, also he is touching his guitar which implies that she leading the interaction.

Adam's arm hangs by his side, his hand looks relaxed but he isn't doing anything to try to take control of the situation or reject her actions.

In this case Rihanna is Dominant and Adam is submissive.

In this scene Adam walks over to Rihanna on the other side of a huge dining table, he pulls the hair at the nape of her neck. This is the first time he has done something of a sexual nature to her.

The nape of the neck is sensitive so pulling that of the hair should have some kind of reaction.

Now you can see Rihanna reacting to the hair pulling. This bit is a little bit weird because this is where the video ends.

Throughout the video regardless of who ever was dominant (because it was questionable most the time) Adam avoided reacting to Rihanna's sexual advances in a sexual way, in this shot Adam is the person to initiate the interaction.

I think the empty space in the shot is to show how Adam has travelled physically across the room, it could be a metaphor of how his mind has changed from appearing uninterested to appearing interested.

The song its's self is about causal sex.

You say I'm not your type but I can make you sway

These lyrics seems to describe a one-sided attraction, Although these are Adams lines and he seemed to be the one who is uninterested but there is definitely a  theme of one-sided attractions.

It would seem that the point of the video was for Rihanna to seduce Adam, I don't think the message was "keep harassing someone until they like you." because I believe he was interested in her all a long and was playing hard to get.

I'm not really sure as to what the message was...

But I think I learnt something pretty cool.

The difference between submissive behaviour and dominating behaviour isn't as black and white as I thought it was.

I thought you had to be one or the other and that the person initiating the interaction was the dominant person  they were the person who was in control of the situation because they had created it.

 I've learnt from the video that both people can be dominant at the same time and that you can be submissively dominant.

allow me to explain:

Just because Rihanna is the one doing the touching does not mean that Adam has to submit.

He is maintaining dominance by resisting and she is maintaining dominance by touching him.

By denying her a reaction he demonstrates he has more power over her by not letting her get what she wants, by touching him she demonstrates power because she has the confidence to do so and that she is persistent.

At the same time they are both submissive because Adam is letting Rihanna touch him and she is struggling to get a reaction so has to keep trying.

So both are submissive and both are dominant.

I think this is important when looking at sexualisation as a whole because people could think that women acting and dressing sexually automatically means that they are being represented as sexual objects and that then makes them weaker because they are submissive to more powerful men when really sexualisation is a lot more complicated than that.

Over sexualised music videos : Wild Wild Love- Pitbull ft G.R.L

Music videos are becoming increasingly sexual, it's a topic that get brought up a lot and it's also a subject that lots of people argue about. A lot.
I've decided to dedicate a series of posts about music videos that are over sexualised and I've started with a Wild Wild Love.

I was sitting at home with a friend watching music video channels when our eyes were exposed to Wild Wild Love by Pitbull ft G.R.L, until that point I haven't actually seen this video properly and having seen it properly it made me cringe a little.
My friend was pretty horrified, maybe I've been desensitised to this kind of thing so I wasn't quite as horrified. (I'm not going to lie I was a slightly horrified.)

I'm sorry, I'm going to be honest but I'm not a Pitbull fan.
I just feel that the songs he features on would be a lot better without him, sorry.
I have to admit he is a pretty good producer however.

The video for Wild Wild Love was basically just Pitbull going to the Play Boy mansion to do some business-esque things amongst the bunnies who all posed provocatively the whole video.
This couldn't have been very comfortable or practical for the women because no what they were doing, whether it be walking, sitting or even loitering in the background they all posed.
Most of them just kind of arched their backs and felt their hips, legs, hair, faces whatever. Like so:

Not that it's a problem, they can arch their backs and feel themselves as much as they like and it doesn't effect me.
Besides I like to think that the audience can appreciate what they are doing that to emphasise their assets for the sake of the video, not because that is how the normally stand/sit/walk.

But Pitbill however didn't do anything to try to (er...) emphasise his assets as it were, not that I want him to emphasise anything but I just feel this is a double standard.
he just kind of stood or sat there whilst these women walked around him or sat beside him arching their backs, touching their legs and just generally loitering in the background seductively.

He looked awkward. 

If he was posing with a girl he would keep the same straight face, if he was about to get a little closer to one of the girls he would grin.
He looked more relaxed when he was rapping/singing/talking/whatever.

I think he was intimidated by the bunnies, I guess that's understandable seeing as their job is to make men weak at the knee's. I don't think Pitbull knew quite what to do with himself so he did his best to not get too over excited thus resulting in an awkward I'm-just-going-to-stand-here-and-not-react-to-beautiful-women-or-my-brain-will-explode kind of performance.


I guess you could interpret this differently, you could argue that the women are being treated as sexual objects, the PlayBoy brand is pretty much built on the objectification of women and whether you see it as women using their bodies to impress men and make money or as men using these women's appearance to earn money these women are still used as sexual objects.

This video could strengthen the idea that women only exist to please men, I however stand by the belief that Pitbull, Pitbull's manager or the video's director was a feeling little perverted and just wanted to go to The PlayBoy Mansion and that was probably no deeper meaning to the video.

5 Seconds Of Summer - She Looks So Perfect music video analysis

When I heard this song and saw this video I fell in love.
It's probably because I'm a teenage girl and I've probably just fallen hook line and sinker for a pretty blonde haired boy in skinny jeans playing the guitar, but that's irrelevant.

The song it's self has a good feeling about it, like you could sing along and act all confident to it.
Both the song and the music video are sort of silly, not bad silly, more like funny "don't take us seriously" silly. There is also something a little naughty about it, like you were to sing along to it in public you might get some awkward glances.








The video starts with the camera focused on the mic in the foreground , the Band are out of focus  in the background.
The band approach the camera with the lead singer heading for the mic.
This is the bands Debut single for many countries around the world so for many people this shot is the first time they would've seen the band.
It seems a little odd that the first shot of the music video for their first single is blurry.
I would say this shot sets the scene, you can easily see that the band is made up of teenage boys and you can see the set.
 From the instruments and their attire you could probably tell what kind of music they make too.
This shot tell you a lot about the band without actually hearing the song or seeing their faces.

As the song starts the audience is shown close ups of all the band members, the first shot as I said left the audience in the dark as to what the band looks and sounds like so now they are making up for by showing lots of close ups.

The video then starts cutting away to different people doing fairly mundane things, there is:

• A man working in a kitchen making food, he looks fed up whilst he dollops a blob of sauce on a plate of chips.
• 2 middle aged women (one blonde and one browny-blonde) shopping in a super market and 2 people working in said supermarket, they also look bored and uninterested.
• A traffic police man handing out a ticket to a man in a car.
• 4 burly men working out in a prison yard.

As the band play on in an alley the video cuts back to the people, their spirits seem to be lifting and they begin swaying and bobbing to the music, as the music continues they begin to dance a little more enthusiastically and they look happier.
It's like the people are losing their inhibitions and are beginning to care a little less about their surroundings are start to enjoy themselves.

The video then cuts of a class room, everyone looks really miserable, everyone is uninterested.
There is a boy with a beard looking around (do high school student's have beards? )
There is a girl playing with chewing gum, there's a girl who looks really annoyed paying with her hair even the teacher looks really sluggish.

The video cuts to a diner, on one table a large woman eats alone whilst a man with frizzy ginger hair sits alone at another table.

The school students start swaying and bobbing their heads, the couple start tapping their feet and smile at each other.

One of the school girls starts unbuttoning her blouse and the couple at the diner strip to their underwear and dance together.

The band is being showered with discarded clothing as people in the buildings strip and throw their clothes out their windows and into the alley below.

The lyrics also mention underwear.

"You look so perfect standing there
In my American Apparel underwear"

I cringe a little every time I mention the word "naughty" but this is the part of the song (and the video) which is naughty, he's talking about a girl wearing his underwear, he isn't talking about seeing her in her own underwear but she is wearing his.
It's silly, it's endearing (sort of), it's romantic (again, sort of), it's a racy and it's a little bit weird, and so is the video.

People wear clothes for protection, primarily to protect from the cold and the heat etc. To wear less clothes (especially underwear or nothing) requires a certain level of confidence, without clothes we are venerable so to choose to go without clothes means that these people are feeling confident and happy.

The lyrics suggest trust, she trusted the boy to see her like his and he appreciates and respects her.

 The whole class is now down to their pants, knickers and bra's, the teacher reacts in shock which is a reasonable reaction because like I said to remove your clothing requires a certain level of confidence which is why people don't strip in public.

I'm not sure why the teacher doesn't strip to be honest because there are plenty of older people in the video stripping but I guess a teacher stripping with his high school students isn't appropriate.

The couple in the diner share an embrace, they then dance with 2 other women in their underwear.

The traffic cop strips too but he leaves his police utility belt which I think is kind of funny.

The prisoners rip their T-Shirts to reveal their muscular forms.

I would say the couple strip to show confidence in approaching each other to start a romantic relationship, the policeman is bored of his job (perhaps he feels he has more potential than being a traffic cop or maybe he's fed up all the people breaking the law), by stripping he is relaxing and enjoy himself and I think the prisoners are stripping because they are feeling down about being in prison.

Stripping and dancing could show they are optimistic and can still enjoy them selves.

There is a shot of a man and woman looking at each other over the fruit and vegetable aisle at the supermarket, there is also a brief shot of an elderly woman.
They want the audience to acknowledge the elderly woman's presence but without taking the focus from the couple.

The couple starts unbuttoning their shirts whilst jigging to the music, the man pulls a.... lustful face.

The attention is brought back to the band momentarily then back to the couple who are now discarding there clothes.
The elderly woman is also seen throwing her shirt.
I think the only reason they cut to the band was because it would be boring watching them undoing button and pulling their arms out of their sleeves.

The trio is then seen dancing in their underwear whilst confetti rains down on them. (I'm not sure where the confetti came from but confetti is usually used in celebrations so it would imply that they are celebrating. If stripping down to your undies signifies confidence and happiness then that could be a reason to celebrate.)

The video then takes the viewer back to the band where the people on the balconies are stripping and dropping their clothes on the band below, there is a slight continuity error (it's really minute and the only reason I've noticed it is because I've been watching it intently multiple times.)

A girl takes off a white top and throws it off the balcony but in the next shot it's a pair of black trousers that fall.
They could arguably belong to the boy standing next to the girl on the balcony, but the boy is still wearing his trousers.
He does take off a jacket in the same shit she removes her top but he isn't seen throwing over the balcony and the piece of clothing is clearly trousers.

The boy who is working in the kitchen is now dancing in his underwear properly.

We are then shown the man, woman and elderly woman trio, then the trio at the tills , then the people in the diner all dancing in their pants.

We are then shown the band and then the blonde middle aged woman who is dancing... Provocatively.
In the frozen food aisle, we are shown the elderly woman and couple trio again and the policeman.

I would like to note the energy of the song fits the dancing of the people and the band really well , the song picks up pace quiet quickly and then loses it again so new people have to be introduced each time the song slows down.

More people are shown dancing in underwear in the next aisle, I think the stripping is meant to be "infectious", if the stripping really is meant to symbolise confidence and happiness then that would imply that the happiness and confidence of others makes you feel more confident and happy.

I think that's true, if someone is happy and is nice to you or makes your day better by just being there and being cheerful that will brighten your day.
Also I think seeing someone else being confident encourages you to be more confident.

We are then see the school students throwing their school work whilst their teachers shout at them.
Again it looks like they are celebrating but what for?
I never understood why do school students in films throw their school work in the air when they are excited or leaving?
Maybe I'm a kill joy but don't you need to keep some of that school work. You know for exams, next year or future reference?

Maybe I'm boring, has anyone actually thrown school work in the air? please let me know, I want to know if this is an actual real life thing.

Anyway, we are then shown people we haven't seen yet like two topless middle aged men in a court room and and elderly woman in her underwear dancing next to a much younger full clothed man.

Why is he fully clothed and why is he looking at the elderly woman?
That bit is a little bit weird, it looks like a sexual situation but not a serious one because he is laughing and not reacting in any other way.
Maybe she's just trying to make him laugh or maybe she just feel body confident or something?
I don't know.

There is a shot of the prisoners in their boxers jumping up and down and a dwarf  at a mechanics in his boxers standing over a car.
I don't know why they included a dwarf either, there isn't any context to relate to but I guess the impression is that he is also feeling confident and happy.

The video ends with the band standing in a line, they shrug their shoulders at each other and start undoing their flies, the screen breaks into static a few times as they begin to pull down their jeans but the video cuts out before any skin can be seen.

The message of the song doesn't really fit the message of the video, The song seems to be about about a boy falling in love with a girl and wanting to runaway with her and the video seems to be about making your self happy and feeling confident with yourself.

The video has some romantic hints with the couple in the diner and the couple in the supermarket and the song has a of theme trust I.E the girl and boy trusting each other (by seeing each other naked.) which I guess could relate back to the confidence theme. I guess.

I really liked this song and this band, not sure if I liked the video as much but I'm looking forward to hearing more from them.

Fall Out Boy - Part 9 of 11 - Rat A Tat ft. Courtney Love- Music video analysis

Part 9 of the Young blood chronicles has finally been released and yes it was Rat a Tat.
I've been looking forward to this video.

This video is pretty interesting, it also tied up some loose ends.



The video starts with this monologue:
"Rise and shine cult campers, lets put our faith back in mayhem.
We are every old, broken toy born again, and again.
As we turn the hype into hope, we silence the noise.
We are the splinter under the worlds finger nail as we turn the diamonds back into coal."

There is footage of a TV with showing the events of My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark, there is footage that recaps the events of Death Valley and then there is footage of what goes on at the kidnappers HQ. (all the kidnappers seems to do is Kidnap people and destroy music paraphernalia.)
The monologue ends with a shot of Patrick's severed hand in a jar.

The footage simply ( just like all the other video openings in the series) sets the scene, this sequence also recaps a little.
from what I gather from the monologue is saying the reader feels forgotten and they are jealous of the more current people.
She describes herself as an old, broken toy. That would imply that she was liked at some point but now she's old/irrelevant and broken/useless.
I've said before that I think the Young Blood Chronicles is about how artists are treated by society and the media/music industry, I.E rappers like Big Sean have more creative freedom when featuring on another artists track because he stood up to the kidnappers even though it turned out bad in the end because he was killed.
I think Courtney is meant to be an artist that is no longer relevant, I mean this in the nicest of ways of course it's just that she's been out of the spotlight for a while.
In the 90's she was heavily criticized due to her relationship with Nirvana Front man Kurt Cobain.
I guess she feels like the media treated her so badly for so long and then all of a sudden it stopped and nobody wanted to know what she was doing.

The line "as we turn the diamonds back into coal"

Diamonds and coal are both made of carbon, only diamonds are much more expensive than coal.
Assuming Courtney is jealous of more current artists then I would say this is a metaphor of ruining their careers.
If current/successful artist are diamonds she is trying to turn them to coal or less desired versions of themselves.

The song starts with a spot light being shone at Courtney, she stands on the top of a flight of stairs holding a megaphone and she chants the lyrics to the women down below.
Standing above the women implies authority over them, she appears to be ordering the women or trying to motivate them.
The way the film is edited makes some of the shots look like a home video and other like CCTV footage, I'm overly sure what the purpose of making it look like a home video/ CCTV footage.

It's made to look like it was filmed on a camcorder, that would fit in with the theme of time and being out of date because most people will now use things like phones to shoot home videos.

I'm not sure as to why it's meant to look like a home video, I'm sure this organisation/cult has enough money and connections to film better footage, maybe this effect is being used to differentiate the footage in this film with the footage from previous videos, because the cult is purposely filming this video.

Another thing that confuses me is why are they filming, are they shooting a propaganda type film or something?
hopefully this will be cleared up in the next  episode.

Women are escorting Patrick Stump through the room where the women are breaking music paraphernalia (instruments, records etc).
Patrick is  struggling so that would imply that he is unwilling to cooperate.

He is taken to a room and strapped into a chair in front of a projector.
It would appear he is being brainwashed.Again.

Patrick was first brainwashed in the Alone Together video.
 Electric shocks and verbal abuse was used to brainwash him in Alone Together, along with the physical and physiological torture that was used in the previous episodes.

I've looked into brainwashing a little bit. (and of course this is fictional and brainwashing doesn't quite work like it does in the Young Blood Chronicles, eye colour doesn't change for one.)
Brainwashing is a technique to make people feel or react a certain way to something so in Alone Together Patrick was conditioned into reacting violently to a tape.

In this video it appears that Patrick is strapped back into the electric chair from Alone Together and he is being shown a series of images, because of the recent trauma he is more susceptible to being mentally manipulated. 

There are images from previous videos such as the flames from My Song Knows What You Did In The Dark, the disco ball and chandelier from Young Volcanoes and the eagle from The Phoenix.
He receives a nasty shock whilst being shown the american flag, a violin being played, hands reaching out at what looks like a concert and the image of his severed hand in a bag.

By shocking him whilst being exposed music related images should make him react badly to music in general.
By doing this the cult should no longer need them tape to change his personality, simply being in the same room as an instrument or simply hearing any form of music should have the same effect.

Courtney is still chanting to the women as they destroy instruments, I think they may have been brainwashed too.
I don't think they have been brainwashed in the same way as Patrick but brainwashing in cults is common practice, people in cults are led to believe what they are doing is right by being manipulated mentally using fears and emotion.
Chanting is meant to enforce an idea/feeling by repetition and by stopping them thinking about anything else and allowing them to make their own opinion.
The women also seem to have a uniform. No women seems to be wearing the exact same thing but they are all wearing something similar, uniform encourages the women to conform and discourages individuality.(which also stops them from thinking as individuals.) 

It looks like the electric current in the chair has been shut off, he is then shown images of what the cult has done to him and the band. he can relax.
The relaxing period where the electric is shut of is meant to condition people into thinking that what they are being shown is positive.
They are conditioning him to react badly to music but to not react negatively to the cult.

Else where Andy and Pete are shown entering the cult HQ with a key card, the way in which the shot is edited makes it look like CCTV footage.
This implies that they are being watched, the cult seems to always be one step ahead so it's highly likely that the cult were aware that Pete and Andy were coming.

 Patrick's eye's have changed again and Pete and Andy can been seen sneaking through the building armed with the weapons they received in the Death Valley video, again it looks like CCTV.

Patrick is led willingly into Courtney's office, he doesn't look angry (more confused if anything), before when his eyes changed he went straight into a fit of blind rage.
Courtney then hands Patrick a drum and he destroys it, she hands him other musical items like records and a guitar which he also breaks, she has a gleeful expression on her face.
He has been successfully conditioned into wanting to destroy music and cult members.

Pete and Andy have made their way into Courtney's office and so far they haven't run into anyone, the cult  probably intended for them to reach her.
Courtney surrenders and Pete takes the sliver brief case which is sitting on the desk.

Patrick looks to Pete.

He has a look of realization, it's important to remember this trance is different from the previous trances where he went into blind rage, he must be able think whilst in this trance because he has to differentiate the difference between music related things and cult related things.

Maybe he recognises Pete and remembers the case and doesn't want to hurt him, but because he is music related/non-cult he will have to fight him.

Or maybe he just clocked the bass guitar machete because either way when Pete runs away Patrick chases after him.

Andy stays behind with Courtney, he feels safe because he is armed and Courtney is unarmed.
As he goes to leave he is grabbed from behind and 2 women slit his throat with a dagger.
Andy subsequently dies and Pete escapes the HQ with Patrick in tow.

I want to talk about the thumbnail for the video on YouTube, I've learnt that Thumbnails are an important part of a music video.
Any point of the video could be used for the thumbnail so the image they used is going to have some kind of relevance or meaning.
 This Thumbnail was very misleading, it looked as if Pete and Andy had won because Courtney was surrendering and it looked like a happy ending when in reality it wasn't a happy ending.

I did think the next video would be Save Rock And Roll but I'm not sure anymore , there is only 2 singles left, the next episode is either Miss Missing You or Save Rock and Roll.

I do have some theories of what could happen within the next 2 videos, the lyrics:
"how'd it get to be only me?
Like I'm the last damn kid still kicking
That still believes"

Imply that the only person to survive is Patrick which would also imply that Pete will also be killed within the next 2 Episodes.

I thought Miss Missing You would be the last video because of general message of the lyrics:
the second verse reads:
"Now you’re gone
But I’ll be okay
Your hot whiskey eyes
Have fanned the flames"
This implies that the person with the "hot whiskey eyes" has gone, whiskey is a yellow-gold colour and hot could mean angry and that sounds like Patrick's alter-ego, it sounds that by the time he says this he is no longer effected by the brainwashing, so what ever the order of the last two videos is I presume that by this point he is no longer being manipulated.

I just hope they can finish the story properly within 2 more videos, I can't to see what they do next.
